How We Started...
Alternate Systems began it's calibration and certification activities by specializing in coating measurement instruments and standards. Our founder was one of the first customers of XRF coating measurement instrumentation and subsequently worked for Seiko Instruments and Fischer Technology, so it was logical to begin with expert services for these instruments.

We quickly added the capability to certify the calibration standards for plating and coating measurement instruments. Then we developed manufacturing systems for these standards.

Quality Systems...
We developed a quality system complying with MIL-STD-45662A in the late 1980s. In 1991, Alternate Systems was audited and approved by a team from Sandia National Laboratories. They renewed this approval in 1998, 2000, and 2002. We currently provide specialized calibration services to the Primary Standards Laboratory at Sandia.

In 1994, we transitioned to the U.S. version of the new international calibration system specification, ANSI/NCSL Z540-1-1994. Alternate Systems is now audited to ISO Guide 25. Our most recent audit was unannounced and conducted by a team from LSI Logic. We scored 96 out of 100 points.

Alternate Systems complies with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and provides the highest quality of services.

We've learned to do other things...
Our clients really liked the high quality of our service and documentation, and asked us to calibrated and certify other instruments and process control apparatus. Since our work with coating measurement instrumentation put us in contact with printed circuit fabricators and other high-technology manufacturers, we learned to calibrate rectifiers and survey ovens and lamination presses. If it is used to manufacture an electronic component, we can probably calibrate it. Alternate Systems has been judged as having service superior to the OEM by some of the world's leading defense and electronics manufacturers.

How can we help you?
First, we'll do the work, with the best instrumentation available and regularly calibrated and certified NIST-traceable standards. Then, you will receive a certificate complying with ANSI/NCSL Z540-1-1994 and ISO/IEC 17025 with data and stated uncertainties. Combined uncertainties can be calculated if you require this data. We will manage a recall system for you and mail reminders to you one month ahead of the calibration due date. And, in the interim, we will assist you as necessary. Samples of our documentation are available in our password-protected Quality Manual section along with a Capabilities List, and representative Supplier Survey.
